My name is Julie Joseph and I have over 20 years sales and marketing experience working with businesses of all shapes and sizes on their communication strategies, marketing integrations and implementations. I am The Virtual Marketeer, marketing strategist & mentor and an email specialist.
A BSc graduate of Computer Science, I was more interested in how technology changes our lives and the way we interact with brands than writing code.
I started my career in the early 1990’s with a computer training company. My interest in marketing and technology meant that I was instrumental in their launch of a web design division as tech savvy businesses became aware of this new marketing channel. This interest in marketing and technology led me to pursue a career focused on digital marketing. I began working with Jupiter Research (now part of Forrester) and later joined IDC helping businesses understand how the then new phenomenon known as the Internet was going to change the way they did business forever! Working with Dot Coms, music companies, travel businesses and retailers in the Internet Boom era was a truly unforgettable experience. I have a strong belief in the value of research to understand market trends but also know that it can’t always predict human nature.
I went on to work for GCDM, a digital marketing agency (now part of Golley Slater) developing new business and managing clients’ online marketing activities. Again my work crossed a number of different sectors with clients such as Business Link, Cadbury, Debenhams and Avon as well as number of smaller businesses. I then spent some time working as a sales and marketing consultant with a number of small and medium businesses including a corporate finance company, technology business and digital publisher.
In 2006 I joined Silverpop Systems Inc as they launched in Europe and I went on to become their European Account Director and eMarketing Consultant. My role was to help clients’ optimise their email marketing programmes and integrate them effectively with other marketing activities. I was also responsible for educating my clients marketing teams on the benefits of email marketing and how to develop and run effective email marketing programmes. My role included teaching on an IDM Course, running a regular email training course for New Media Age and presenting at Internet World. Again, I worked with a huge range of clients, notably BSkyB, BMI Baby, Virgin Holidays and the RSPCA.
The Virtual Marketeer
In 2009 and I took a career break to have my 2 children, undertaking a number of adhoc consulting projects to fit in with my role a mother. As well as being the amazing experience everyone knows motherhood is, I have benefited from new insights through a change in lifestyle.
In 2013, The Virtual Marketeer launched helping business owners develop and action realistic marketing plans. My focus is on mentoring business owners and managers as well as developing effective email marketing programmes for clients.
A member of the Institute of Direct and Digital Marketing, I have also passed their Award qualification to supplement my experience.
My daughters and husband drive my passion for life and a flexible working environment. I enjoy playing badminton and pilates to exercise, zone out and relax. I am also an keen reader when I can find the time (including chick lit, mysteries and inspirational business books – recommendations welcome).
I am also active in the local education community. I am a School Governor at the local childrens centre and nursery school as well as being actively involved in the local parent teacher association for my daughters school – I do the marketing (what else!).
